Suspected terrorist, 16, arrested in early morning Toothill raid, police say

A teenager suspected of right-wing terrorism has been arrested during an early morning raid in Swindon.

Specialist officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North East executed a warrant at an address in Stamford Close, Toothill, at before 7am.

At the scene, a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

The suspect, along with four others arrested in North Wales and West Yorkshire, was taken to a police station for questioning.

Following the discovery of potentially suspicious material at one of the addresses, in Keighley, West Yorkshire, a bomb disposal unit was called to provide specialist advice and to arrange the safe removal of the items if required.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “The arrests form part of an ongoing investigation led by Counter Terrorism Policing North East into to Right Wing Terrorism.

“We recognise that local people may have concerns as a result of this activity. We would like to reassure them that these arrests are pre-planned and intelligence led and there is not believed to be any immediate risk to the local community.

”We are grateful for the understanding, patience and support of local residents while these enquiries continue.”
