Chippenham man admits smashing girlfriend’s phone but denies assaulting her

A man has admitted smashing his girlfriend’s phone but denies assaulting her.

30-year-old Jordan Mussell appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with criminal damage and assault by beating.

Crown prosecutor Ben Worthington said the defendant, of Westcroft, was arrested when neighbours called 999 reporting a disturbance at an address on 21 November 2020.

Police officers arrived at the scene to find two people – Mussell and his girlfriend – in an argument. During the incident, the woman’s mobile phone was damaged.

The Crown Prosecution Service say the defendant assaulted his partner by grabbing her, however, this is denied by the defendant. Magistrates sent the case for trial on 14 June.

Mussell pleaded guilty to criminal damage and will be sentenced following the trial.
