WATCH: Person caught knocking over kindness cupboard on resident’s CCTV

A local resident was horrified to discover a person knocking over a kindness cupboard in what was labelled a ‘random act of nastiness’.

The unit was placed in Mustang Close, Westbury, about a year ago – its aim to provide free food for people struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.

Others, who were surviving well, could donate food and other items to the cupboard. It’s a scheme that is believed to have helped dozens of locals during tough times.

But last night, a car pulled up alongside the cupboard, the driver got out and pushed it over – for no obvious reason.

The incident was capture on local resident Andy Drake’s CCTV. He told Wiltshire 999s he is considering reporting the incident to the police.

However, it’s claimed the accused didn’t deliberately carry out the act – instead, he pushed it over thinking it was discarded waste to reveal the road sign.

The partner of the accused wrote: “When we pulled up we couldn’t find the house and the road sign was completely obstructed and he couldn’t see any numbers.

“He then got annoyed and pushed over what he thought was a few boxes of rubbish or recycling to get out of the way of the sign after driving around not being able to find the house.

“In the pitch black with no sign on it, I’m not sure how he would know it was a kindness box? Not until this morning when we’ve woken up and I’ve seen this did we realise.

“My partner made a stupid decision to push some boxes of what he thought was rubbish away from a sign in frustration (was a busy stressful night.) If at any point my partner thought it was something like a kindness box he never ever would have touched it.”
