Vehicle partially demolishes Bradford on Avon canal bridge in evening crash

A vehicle partially demolished a Bradford on Avon canal bridge last night.

Emergency services were called to the crash in Frome Road, close to The Lock Inn, late on Friday evening.

A large amount of stone fell into the Kennet and Avon Canal as a result.

Wiltshire Police confirmed to Wiltshire 999s that no arrests were made.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: “We responded to a call at around 9.50pm to a single-vehicle road traffic collision on Frome Road, Bradford on Avon.

“A Citroen Berlingo had crashed with the canal bridge. No injuries were reported.

“The vehicle has been recovered and both the Canal Trust and Highways Agency were informed.”
