Van driver arrested on suspicion of drug driving after 11-year-old girl hit by van

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a schoolgirl was hit by a van in Swindon.

Emergency services responded to the incident on Ermin Street, outside Kingsdown School, at around 3pm this afternoon.

Since it has emerged the driver of the van involved was arrested in connection with the crash, police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: ““Emergency services attended and the girl has been taken to Great Western Hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

“The driver of the vehicle involved, a 24-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

“The road was closed for a short time but has now been reopened.

“We would ask any witnesses to call Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting log 143 of today (25/03).”
