Man accused of hitting victim’s head with hammer before disorder in Devizes

A Devizes man has appeared in court charged with using a hammer in a serious disorder.

32-year-old Daniel Fear was arrested after police officers on a general patrol stumbled across an incident at the Esso service station on the A361 Northgate Street on Thursday, at around 5am.

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Friday – having been remanded in custody overnight – the defendant, of St John’s Street, appeared charged with affray, drink driving and driving whilst disqualified.

It’s alleged Mr fear struck his victim with a hammer more than once near his home, before driving to the service station and causing a further disorder.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction on the case and it was adjourned to Swindon Crown Court on 23 April. A pre-sentence report was ordered.

Fear was released on conditional bail, with conditions not to enter Warminster.
