Armed police deployed to Wiltshire village following concern for welfare

Armed police officers were deployed to a Wiltshire village this morning.

Local residents reported seeing a large police presence in Burbage at around 10.30am, with several Authorised Firearms Officers (AFOs) and a dog unit in the High Street.

But Wiltshire Police say the public shouldn’t be concerned about this morning’s events.

“We responded to a concern for welfare at an address in Burbage this morning, armed officers were deployed as a precautionary measure”, a spokesperson said.

They continued: “We would like to reassure people locally that the deployment of armed officers was a proportionate and standard response given the nature of the initial concern. However, once more information was known and the circumstances were clarified, then they were no longer needed.

“No crime had been committed and no further police action is required.”
