Fire crews respond to reports of ‘strong burning smell’ in air traffic control tower

Firefighters attended reports of a ‘strong burning smell’ in an air traffic control tower.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews, both from Chippenham, to the incident at Colerne Airfield shortly after 11.15am this morning.

On investigation, using a thermal imaging camera and gas monitor, the smell was found to be coming from the ground floor radio equipment room.

A small fire in a battery cabinet was discovered. Firefighters used natural ventilation to clear the smell and handed the incident over to the on-site manager and electrician.
