Police seize car and issue fine after man drove 100 miles to Wiltshire for a McDonald’s

Wiltshire Police seized a man’s car after he drove more than 100 miles for a McDonald’s.

The 34-year-old had driven from his home in Luton to visit a restaurant in the county when he was stopped by police in Devizes on Thursday evening (14 January).

The man has already received a warning and been asked to return home when he was pulled over by officers in Estcourt Street, stating he was headed to McDonald’s.

“The distance travelled across numerous counties to Devizes, which doesn’t have a McDonald’s restaurant, is a flagrant breach of the regulations currently in place”, a police spokesperson said.

Continuing: “A £200 fixed penalty notice was issued as well as the vehicle being seized.

“The majority of people across Wiltshire continue to act responsibly and we thank you for that, however, it is important to protect the NHS that we all stick to the rules.

“If you have concerns about someone potentially breaching the Government’s restrictions we would urge you to report this online via the Report section of our website to help keep our phone lines free for other police matters.”
