Armed police swarm street after receiving 999 call reporting shooting in Swindon

Armed police officers swarmed a street in Swindon today after they received a 999 call reporting that there had been a shooting.

Wiltshire Police deployed firearms units to the address in Radstock Avenue, Park North, at around 2pm this afternoon after a man claimed he had been shot.

“A man was claiming to have been shot in the leg”, a spokesperson for the force said.

Adding: “A tactical firearms team was dispatched, as a precaution, but on further investigation the man was understood to have not received the injury as originally described”.

The casualty was taken to the Great Western Hospital for treatment.

Wiltshire Police has confirmed that “members of the public were not at any risk”.
