Non-locals banned from Salisbury Plain as police crack down on illegal lockdown visits

The Military of Defence Police says officers will be out enforcing the lockdown rules as it warns people to avoid the area for anything other than exercise.

People are being told they ‘should not access the plains for the sole purpose of driving any kind of motorised vehicle – whether it has two, four or six wheels’.

The land can still be accessed by the public for physical exercise, including walking (with or without a dog), running, cycling and horse riding.

However, police say only locals should access the area. A spokesperson said “Andover is not considered local”, and the east of Salisbury Plain is “not considered local to Warminster”.

Adding: “The military and civilian safety staff will be out to Engage, Educate and Encourage you to leave if you are not following the Government rules.

“The MOD Police will be out to Enforce the rules and will be issuing fixed penalty notices, where appropriate. Stay at home to protect yourselves, your families and others.”
