Police investigating Christmas tree vandalism have ‘good idea who the suspects are’

A number of Christmas trees were vandalised in Warminster yesterday evening.

Wiltshire Police has launched an investigation into the incident which occurred in Three Horseshoes Walk Shopping Centre mall between 8pm and 10pm on 17 December.

Offenders are said to have entered the shopping centre and damaged the main Christmas tree and further decorated bay trees in the vicinity.

A police spokesperson said: “Thanks to CCTV and local intelligence our officers have a good idea who the suspects are and are continuing to make enquiries today.

“To help with our investigation, if you heard or saw anything suspicious in this area yesterday evening please contact us on 101 quoting crime reference number 54200124985.”

The shopping centre’s trees were also targeted last year, in the run-up to Christmas.

“This is the second year in succession that this has occurred and we will have to review how we approach this in the coming years”, a spokesperson said.

“Each year we receive great feedback from both customers and our retailers regarding our Christmas decorations, what a shame these few people had to ruin them for us all in this very difficult year.”
