999 call about car travelling wrong way and on pavement leads to man’s arrest

A grey car facing the wrong was in Regent Circus, where police were first called about the driver

A man was arrested in the early hours of this morning after police received a 999 call reporting a car being driven the wrong way down the road.

The witness told the control room operator that the grey Renault Clio was travelling towards him through Regent Circus – a one-way road – at around 11pm last night. The car was reportedly driven across the pavement a short time later.

Following the vehicle whilst on the phone to the police, the witness claims that the driver then travelled through a bus gate and drove the wrong way down Corporation Street.
