Man charged with child sex offence after Swindon paedophile hunter sting

He was arrested in Swindon town centre

A local man, who was allegedly caught attempting to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex in Swindon town centre yesterday, has been charged.

Western Hunters, who hunt down online sexual predators using decoy profiles, detained the father-of-one outside Primark on Regent Street at around 6.30pm on 22 June.

Mark Lee Smith, 28, has been charged with charged with attempting to cause/incite a child to engage in sexual activity and has been bailed to attend crown court on Friday 21 July.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “A 28-year-old Swindon man has appeared before Swindon Magistrates today (Friday 23 June 2017) charged with attempting to cause/incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

“Mark Lee Smith of no fixed address has been released on conditional bail to attend crown court on Friday 21 July 2017 at 10am.

“This follows an arrested made by Wiltshire Police officers yesterday evening (approximately 6.30pm on Thursday 22 June 2017) in Swindon Town Centre.”
