Police helicopter and armed officers deployed to Swindon after ‘armed robbery’

The police helicopter has been deployed to Swindon for the second time today following an ‘armed robbery’.

Police officers wearing full tactical kit and carrying firearms were witnessed in the area of Moredon Road and Whitworth Road moments after the incident at around 8pm tonight.

It’s believed at least one suspect entered Betfred bookmakers in Blair Parade.

One local, who didn’t want to named, told Wiltshire 999s “it was an armed robbery”, but were unsure what weapon was used.

A number of detectives from Swindon CID are currently in attendance, taking witness statements from staff. The store is closed to customers at this time.
