Big Cat of Highworth: Police called in to patrol town after ‘lion’ sighting

Police were called in to patrol a town in North Wiltshire following a sighting of a ‘lion’.

Officers patrolled Highworth in search of the animal mid-week but say no big cat was located.

Commenting on the incident today (Friday), PCSO Kate Jackon said: “You may remember years ago there was the Beast of Bodmin, we now have the Big Cat of Highworth apparently.

“There was a report of a lion in Highworth yesterday or the day before. You’ll be pleased to know that patrols were done and nothing was found.”

Back in June, the police drone unit was requested to search for a black panther which was reportedly sighted in Chiseldon. It turned out to be a large domestic cat.

The cat “couldn’t work out what all the fuss was”, drone pilot Inspector Sanders commented.

Also in June, just over the border in Gloucestershire, officers investigated reports of a black panther sighting in the Wildmoorway Lane area of South Cerney.
