Fire forensics begin work at scene of ‘crack den’ arson attack in Chippenham

Specialist fire investigators have returned to the scene of a suspected arson attack on a property in Chippenham this morning as detectives continue their probe.

Emergency services raced to the scene in Charter Road at around 1.30pm on Tuesday following reports of the suspicious blaze at what neighbours say is a “known crack den”.

A 31-year-old local man was located and detained by Police Dog Bree after officers spotted him fleeing the scene. He was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Local residents were evacuated for more than three hours whilst firefighters worked at the scene. A large crime scene cordon was in place as detectives rushed to the serious incident.
