Emergency services race to rescue casualty from River Avon in Chippenham

Emergency services are currently dealing with a serious incident on the River Avon.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed at the scene in Chippenham shortly after 1pm following reports of a woman in the water, as local ambulance crews raced to the incident.

The helicopter touched down off Riverside Drive as a number of fire appliances including a specialist water rescue unit rushed to the ongoing rescue.

A spokesperson Wiltshire Police said: “We are currently dealing with an incident on the riverbank in Chippenham.

“At around 1pm we received a call about a woman in the water near to Riverside Drive, so police, fire and ambulance have all attended.

“We would ask people to please avoid the area at this time.”
