Man, 42, accused of attempting to kill his mother and stepfather pleads not guilty

A Hampshire man accused of attempting to murder his mother and stepfather at their bungalow near Marlborough earlier this year has pleaded not guilty.

Police officers – supported by the police helicopter – raced to reports of a disturbance at the detached village home in Cutting Lane, Shalbourne, at around 7.30pm on Monday 30 March. At the scene, his mother Linda Holford and her husband Adrian Holford were found with serious injuries.

It is alleged James Wells, 42, of Lee-on-the-Solent, stabbed his mother with a screwdriver and seriously assaulted Mr Holdford in the attack. He’s also accused of assaulting a police officer on the same date.

He entered the plea of not guilty to all three charges at Bristol Crown Court today. A trial will be arranged but is not expected to take place until next year. Wells was remanded into custody and will next appear in court on 6 November 2020.
