Social gatherings of more than six people to become ILLEGAL from Monday

Social gatherings of more than six people will be illegal in England from Monday.

A ban on groups of more than six people gathering in homes, parks, pubs and restaurants is being imposed by the Prime Minister in the biggest coronavirus crackdown since lockdown rules were eased.

Those within the groups of up to six people can be from separate households, but gatherings of any size for work or education purposes will be permitted.

First offenders will be fined £100, which will double on each repeat offence up to £3,200.

The crackdown placed on England follows concerns raised by government medical chiefs that the public – particularly young people – are now ‘too relaxed about coronavirus’ despite the COVID-19 rates are now above 20 per 100,000 people.
