Suspected drink driver narrowly missed crashing into police officers in Calne

A man’s been charged with drink driving after nearly colliding with police officers in Calne.

Officers were dealing with a minor road traffic collision in Curzon Street in the early hours of this morning when a passing motorist – travelling at high speed – narrowly avoided hitting them.

An area search was launched and the vehicle was spotted a few minutes later on Oxford Road.

The driver was asked to provide a specimen of breath, blowing a positive sample. He was arrested and taken to Melksham custody where he provided two positive evidential samples.

21-year-old Anthony Owen Weston, of Oxford Road, Calne, has been charged with driving whilst over the prescribed alcohol limit.
