Illegal rave in Swindon ‘cancelled’ after proactive and preventative policing

An illegal rave due to take place in Swindon overnight didn’t take place, Wiltshire Police says.

Information from the local community alongside proactive, preventative work by officers, local businesses and our key partners – including Swindon Borough Council – resulted in the event being cancelled.

Supt Phil Staynings said: “A lot of police and partnership resources were put in to this to prevent the event from happening and we are pleased that the organisers cancelled it and those planning on attending decided against doing so.

“I’d like to thank the local community for their support and help in sharing information which helped our work here.

“It is important to stress that Government restrictions on socialising in large groups still remain in place and if you are planning to attend similar events in future, we would strongly advise you not to do so.

“I’d also urge communities to continue sharing information about illegal mass gatherings so we are able to intervene at the earliest opportunity and help keep people safe. You can report crimes and intelligence to us via our website or by calling 101.”
