‘Small number’ of Tesco employees test positive for COVID-19 at Swindon store

A number of Tesco employees based in Swindon have tested positive for coronavirus.

The ‘small number’ of workers received the diagnoses in recent days, with other workers – who may have been in contact with the cases – being sent home to self-isolate.

The store affected, Tesco Extra in Ocotal Way, employs hundreds of people and delivers in excess of 750 deliveries to homes across the borough every day.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “The safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority. We have introduced extensive measures across all of our stores to help keep everyone safe, including protective screens at every checkout, social distancing signage and regular deep cleaning.”

Correction: It was initially reported that the outbreak occurred in the home delivery department. This was incorrect – no home delivery drivers have tested positive for coronavirus. The department/s affected by the outbreak is currently unknown.
