A police chase through Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge came to an end after the driver collided with a parked car in a quiet residential street this afternoon.

Officers were seen pursuing the grey Ford Focus from around 2.30pm, with Wiltshire 999s’ readers spotting the vehicle speeding through a number of roads in the two towns, including Cock Hill, Westwood Road, Brook Road, Lambrook Road and Studley Green housing estate.

The Ford – missing its front nearside tyre – was witnessed smashing through fencing on Studley Green Playing Fields before entering Azalea Drive where it crashed into a parked green Volkswagen.

Three occupants of the car attempted to flee but were swiftly detained by pursuing officers.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Shortly before 3pm yesterday a driver failed to stop for police in Pound Lane, Semington.

“The vehicle – a Ford Focus – made off towards Bradford-on-Avon and was seen to be driven dangerously with damage caused to the vehicle. A pursuit was authorised and the vehicle came to a stop following a low speed collision near the play park off Lambrok Road, where the driver fled the vehicle and attempted to make off on foot but was arrested.

“The man in his twenties, from Trowbridge, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop a vehicle when required to do so by an officer and dangerous driving. He remains in custody in Melksham for questioning.”
