In a statement released to Wiltshire 999s this morning, Wiltshire Police were confident that no crime had been committed but it was clear by midday that an investigation was taking place.

A force spokesperson said: “At around 1.40am this morning (22/07) we received a call from a member of the public who was concerned about a quantity of blood on the ground at Daniel’s Well in Malmesbury.

“Officers attended and carried out a thorough search of the area, as well as contacting the ambulance service and local hospitals to see if they had treated anyone with injuries.

“At this stage there is no suggestion that a crime has been committed, but rather someone has suffered an accidental injury and sought their own medical assistance.”
