Man suspected of ramming police car with van towing caravan charged

A man has been charged with various offences van rammed a police car in Swindon.

The stolen van towing a caravan collided with a specially kitted out roads policing BMW before fleeing the scene in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Simon Coates, 43, from Rochester, Kent, was arrested and has since been charged with criminal damage, dangerous driving, failing to stop and bilking (taking fuel without paying for it).

He was released on conditional bail and is due to appear at Swindon Crown Court on 14 August.

The roads policing officers involved in the crash were uninjured.
