Police officers left wet and muddy after arresting assault suspect in river

Police officers were left wet and muddy when they had to arrested a suspect hiding in a river.

The officers who dealt with the suspect search in Cricklade this morning thanked local residents who had helped them locate the man following a domestic incident.

The 30-year-old was located, after some time, hiding in the River Thames near North Meadow.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of two counts of Actual Bodily Harm (ABH). He is now in custody as police continue their investigation into the assault.

“So if you see some wet and muddy officers today you’ll now know why”, a spokesperson for Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade Police jested on social media.
