Swindon school locked down after gun pointed out of window nearby

A Swindon school was locked down this afternoon as armed police responded to a gun sighting.

The officers raced to the scene in Beech Avenue, Pinehurst, at just after 12pm following a report about a male pointing a gun out of the window of a property.

Swindon Academy was placed on lockdown whilst police dealt with the incident; teachers were asked to keep children inside and lock the gates as firearms officers arrived outside.

Officers visited a property nearby, seizing an air rifle and knife.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “At approximately 12.15pm today we received a report that a male had been seen to point a weapon out of a window of an address in Beech Avenue, Pinehurst.

“Officers have attended the scene and have seized an air rifle and a knife from an address.

“Nobody has been injured. Enquiries are ongoing.”
