Man tries to flee paedophile hunters as he’s confronted in Wroughton

A man’s been arrested following a paedophile hunter sting near Swindon this afternoon.

The 51-year-old suspect was confronted by the group – who had travelled over three hours to conduct the operation – on a housing estate on the outskirts of Wroughton at around 1pm.

Just moments into the confrontation, the man attempted to walk away from the group. Attempts were made to stop him, but he managed to get to what is believed to be his home address.

It was alleged that the man had been having a sexually explicit conversation with who he believed to be a 14-year-old girl online. He denied the allegations to paedophile hunters.

A short time later, police arrived at his home address. He was arrested as his wife watched on.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We can confirm that we’ve arrested a 51-year-old man from the Wroughton area on suspicion of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.”
