Man with serious injury becomes violent towards paramedics treating him

Paramedics were forced to call the police for help whilst trying to treat a casualty who became aggressive and violent towards them in Swindon this afternoon.

Police officers raced to the incident in Whitbourne Avenue at around 2pm, where a man suffered a serious hand injured which required urgent medical attention.

The casualty as detained and handcuffed by police before he was taken to hospital. It’s thought the injury was caused accidentally.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 2pm today (12/06) we were called by the ambulance service requesting assistance with a patient in Whitbourne Avenue, Swindon.”

“The patient, a man in his 20s, had suffered a serious hand injury, which is believed to have been caused accidentally.

“However, police were required to assist as he had become volatile, and officers will accompany him to hospital for treatment.”
