Pensioner on bicycle thrown across roundabout after being struck by car

UPDATE 3PM: A cyclist’s been taken to hospital after being struck by a car on a main road.

The man, in his 60s, was thrown 20 metres across a roundabout when he was hit by the black Ford Fiesta on Whitehill Way, Swindon, at around 12.15pm this afternoon.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed in a field nearby so its two specialist critical care medics could provide urgent assistance to local paramedics treating the man in the road near Shaw Ridge.

Police say his injuries aren’t thought to be as serious as first thought.

The driver of the Ford, a man in his 50s, didn’t suffer any injuries in the collision.

Traffic officers attended the scene, but a forensic collision investigation wasn’t necessary and the main road reopened at approximately 2.30pm.
