Woman suffers broken leg after crashing into back of parked lorry

Wiltshire Police are warning motorists about the dangers of the ‘winter sun’ following a road traffic collision in Broomcroft Road, Pewsey this morning.

Earlier today, 22 December, a woman suffered a broken leg after driving into the back of a 7 and a half tonne lorry, which was parked legally on the side of the road.

Police say that the driver of the blue Ford Fiesta ‘was unable to see the tonne lorry that was parked up due to the sun being in her eyes’.

Wiltshire Police issued the following advice:

Bad winter weather conditions can create dangers when driving, but winter suns can also cause difficulties. In winter, the angle of the sun in the sky will frequently be too low for your visor to help. If blinded by glare:

• Reduce your speed;

• Reduce the effect of glare by keeping both the inside and outside of your windscreen clean and grease free;

• If you wear sunglasses (with prescription lenses if necessary) take them off whenever the sun goes in. They should not be worn in duller weather or at night as they seriously reduce the ability to see.
