Police car damaged whilst officers searched for missing autistic child

A police car windscreen was smashed while officer searched for a missing autistic child.

It happened on Saturday at around 5.30pm when police were called to Toucan Street, Trowbridge, following reports of a missing 10-year-old.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Sadly in the 20 or so minutes it took the officers to locate the child and return him safely to his family, the windscreen on one of our police cars was smashed.

“This mindless damage has such a negative impact on our ability to police our community and puts strain on our already busy workshops, not to mention the cost implications, that we were really disappointed to be a victim of this crime.

“If you were witness to whoever caused this damage, please make contact on 101 as we would love to speak to those responsible.”
