Water rescue firefighters respond to help men who entered River Avon

Emergency services responded to a person entering the River Avon yesterday morning.

A large number of police units raced to the scene in Ashley Road, Salisbury, at around 11.30am following reports of a man getting into the city’s fast-flowing river.

Specialist water rescue firefighters from the local station and from Poole Fire Station on the south coast were sent to the scene, but the man was out on their arrival.

Wiltshire Police officers gave emergency first aid whilst awaiting on an ambulance.

It is not clear why the man entered the River Avon.
