Lorry cordoned off as foreign driver self-isolates over coronavirus fears

A lorry has been cordoned off at a truck stop amid fears a driver could have coronavirus.

The man, believed to be Russian, presented himself to staff at the facility this morning, showing a mobile phone with the Google Translate app open saying ‘I think I have coronavirus’.

Staff at Swindon Truck Shop, on Oxford Road, called 111 and the driver was told to self-isolate there.

The lorry was cordoned off with red and white tape and cones to avoid people getting too close to the vehicle, but the driver is permitted to continue using the facilities there, a source confirmed.

Other drivers raised some serious concerns about their safety given the driver will be using the same toilets, risking the lives of dozens of other drivers who used them.
