Woman, 51, charged after refusing to provide sample of breath after crash

A woman was arrested after she refused to provide a sample of breath to police following a crash.

On Wednesday evening, police were called to a report of a black Renault Clio colliding with parked cars and then leaving the scene without stopping.

The vehicle was later pulled over by responding officers on Ferndale Road at around 6pm.

But when the driver was asked to provide a specimen of breath, she refused and was arrested.

“Denise Mele, 51, of Walcot, has been charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis – she was remanded in custody,” spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.

Following the arrest, a PCSO conducted a search of her vehicle in Surrey Road.

Appearing in court today, Mele denied the charge. The case will next be heard on 24 May.
