Calls to burglary lead police officers to 300-plant cannabis factory

A man’s been arrested following the discovery of a 300-plant cannabis factory in Swindon.

Police were called to reports of a suspected burglary from a member of the public who had witnessed suspicious activity at an address in Winifred Street at approximately 5pm yesterday.

Officers attended the address and located a large cannabis factory inside the building. A cordon was put in place at the address while the factory was dismantled and the plants destroyed.

A local man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and he remains in custody at Gablecross this morning.

Insp Steve Love said: “I would like to thank the vigilant member of the public who reported their concerns to us immediately, which enabled us to attend quickly, cordon off the premises and make an arrest.

“Our enquiries into the incident are still very much ongoing at this time, but I would urge anyone who has concerns about suspicious activity at a property in their neighbourhood to report their concerns to police so action can be taken.”

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54200029718.
