Melksham play areas cordoned off as people ‘put lives at risk’

Children’s play areas across Wiltshire are being cordoned off by councils in a bid to enforce social distancing as residents continue to ignore the request of the government to stay at home.

Melksham Town Council staff were working to close down all play areas around the town this afternoon, with the small play park in Lewington Close being taped off with a warning notice at 2.15pm.

The notice said: “This Play Area is closed!” We cannot guarantee your safety due to the outbreak of Covid-19. Social distancing means keeping two metres away from people.

“You may have the virus and not developed symptoms but you can still pass it onto others.

“By socialising in this area you are putting the lives of yourself and others at risk of contracting Covid-19.

“Please heed the Government advice about social distancing and staying at home.”

Children’s play areas in Bradford on Avon are also closing, with notices tied to the gates.
