Iceland store in Wiltshire will open two hours early for older shoppers

An Iceland store in north Wiltshire will open two hours early once a week to provide older shoppers the chance to purchase essential products before they are stockpiled by other customers.

Across the UK shelves are bare as people fill their trolley with as much toilet roll, wet wipes, hand wash and pasta as possible amid serious concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.

The stockpiling fiasco is leaving the more vulnerable people – especially the elderly – in our communities without even the most essential of items.

Chippenham’s Iceland, in Market Place, will open at 7.30am on Wednesdays and will only allow customers aged over 60 in to shop. The age restriction is in place for two hours, with normal trading resuming at 9.30am.

The news comes as other Iceland stores in other parts of the UK roll out the kind initiative.

It is not yet clear whether any other Wiltshire stores will be taking part in early opening.
