Girl, 12, in critical condition after pavement hit-and-run in Newbury

A 12-year-old girl is fighting for her life in hospital after a hit-and-run in Newbury.

It happened on the northbound carriageway of the A339 in Berkshire – on the railway overbridge close to Station Road – at around 9pm on 27 December.

The child, who was walking on the pavement with her family, was struck by what police believe was a flatbed van or recovery vehicle which failed to stop at the scene.
