Swindon man arrested after running from police following traffic stop

A man’s been arrested in Swindon after running away from police during a traffic stop.

Officers tried to stop the car, a blue Renault Clio, in Toothill just after midnight this morning, but the driver pulled into a quiet road, got out of the car and ran away from them.

A foot pursuit took place, before the man was apprehended a short distance from Beaulieu Close, where the vehicle was parked.

A 38-year-old man, from Swindon, has been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

One local resident told Wiltshire 999s that she saw a large police presence, with three people initially detained by police. Officers were also witnessed searching the area with their torches.

Wiltshire Police has confirmed that the man is in custody at Gablecross Police Station.
