Police officer jumps into Devizes canal to save woman from drowning

A police officer jumped into a canal to save a woman from drowning last night.

It happened at Kennet & Avon Canal, near Devizes Rugby Club, at just before 7pm on Saturday.

Wiltshire Police received reports of the woman in the water and officers were sent to the scene.

“The first officer to arrive jumped into the water and pulled the woman to safety. She was conscious and breathing”, a police spokesperson said.

Adding, “She was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon as a precaution.”
