Armed suspect tasered by police after threats to blow up house

A man armed with a knife has been tasered by police inside a home in Swindon tonight.

Six firearms officers carrying machine guns entered an address in Penhill at around 8pm, after a man was heard threatening to blow up a property while carrying a knife.

South Western Ambulance Service sent two ambulances to the scene, while Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service responded with two fire engines as a precautionary measure.

While the incident was ongoing, Penhill Drive near Durnford Road was closed in both directions until 8.45pm. The final police unit left the scene at around 9.15pm.

One man was arrested at the scene, but taken to an ambulance for medical help. We’ve approached Wiltshire Police for comment on this incident.
