A local man, in his 20s, arrived at Great Western Hospital with several stab wounds, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and his condition is described as stable.

The police helicopter was overhead from around 8.15am but left the area by 8.45am.

Det Insp Helen Jacobs, from Swindon CID, said officers, including armed officers, were currently trying to locate a suspect in the Grange Park area of Swindon.

She said: “We are still trying to piece together exactly what happened last night, but at this stage we have a suspect we are trying to find and arrest.

“You may see armed officers throughout the morning, and potentially into this afternoon, but I want to reassure the public that this is a contained incident and we are simply using this resource to find our suspect as quickly and safely as possible.

“I understand that an incident of this nature is alarming for the community, but at this stage we believe it was a targeted attack, between a group of people who are known to each other.

“If anyone has any information then I would urge you to contact police. You can give information anonymously if you prefer, but please pick up the phone and tell us what you know.”
