Swindon man caught by paedophile hunters avoids jail term due to ‘difficult upbringing’

A man caught by paedophile hunters when he was attempting to meet a ‘child’ he’d been talking to online has been sentenced at Swindon Crown Court.

25-year-old Jason Watts traveled to Newport to meet the teenage girl in February, but was spared a jail term due to his difficult upbringing and immaturity, according to the Swindon Advertiser.

While chatting with the 15-year-old, he asked for naked photos and told her he loved her.

When Watts arrived in Newport, paedophile hunters detained him and handed him over to police.

The Swindon resident who lives at Culvery Court pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child after sexual grooming and attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

He was sentenced to three-years of unpaid work and must register as a sex offender for five years.
