RSPCA identity appeal after man bites head off pigeon in “deeply shocking” video

A man has bitten the head off a live pigeon in a “deeply shocking” video.

The footage, released by the RSPCA today, appears to show a man gaining access to the bird by hitting at its nesting place with a stick. The man then grabs hold of the bird – whose wings are flapping – and seems to bite the head from the bird’s body.

Dermot Murphy, assistant director of our inspectorate team, has said: This is a deeply shocking, disturbing and distressing video, appearing to show a man biting the head off a live pigeon.

“Biting the head off a pigeon is likely to constitute an offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. We’re very eager for information to be brought to our attention as a matter of urgency.”

It’s believed that the incident happened in north England or Wales, however, is it possible that it could have occurred anywhere in the UK.

Anyone with information should contact the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018 immediately.
