Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service asked local residents to close their windows and doors last night as the plumes of smoke filled the air.

Some firefighters remained working at the scene this morning, at 8am. They are expected to remain there for more of today as they dampen down the property and use thermal imaging to detect hot spots.

The cause of the blaze is thought to be an electricity supply fault which sent sparks onto the thatch; this was witnessed by a passerby who phoned 999 to report it. SSE were also at the incident working to locate and isolate the fault.

No one’s been injured in the fire, and all occupants are safe and accounted for.
