300-plant cannabis factory discovered in Swindon home after tip-off

A large cannabis factory was found in a uninhabited house in Swindon last night.

Police were contacted by a member of the public at around 9.20pm on Sunday who reported ‘a strong sickly smell’ coming from a property on Tracy Close in Abbey Meads.

Local residents, who thought the property was empty, also witnessed a number of people coming and going from the address.

Officers attended the address and discovered a large drugs factory containing around 300 cannabis plants along with cultivating equipment.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis. He is currently in custody.

Sgt Jansen Carter said: “Thanks to a call from a diligent member of the community we have managed to close down another drugs factory in Swindon and our investigation in to this continues.

“I’d like to reassure local people that reporting suspected drug activity in your area is really important as it helps build up an intelligence picture which could be crucial to our investigations.

“We know that drug supply is often associated with other crimes like physical violence and knife crime, and we take incidents of this nature extremely seriously.

“If you suspect drug activity in your area, please provide police with as much information as possible. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence and will help us disrupt crime that impacts negatively on your community.”
