The driver of the Peugeot, a 24-year-old man from Swindon, has been arrested in connection with the crash and is currently in police custody.

Dozens of local residents, including friends of the fatally injured man, were lining the streets around the scene of the crash. Many were hysterical as they watched 999 crews work to attempt to save his life.

The road was closed until gone midnight as Tri-force Roads Policing Unit carried out and investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call them on 101.
