Teenagers celebrating 15th birthday run from police in Trowbridge park

An ‘enormous’ group of teenagers ran from police officers when they arrived at the scene of a 15th birthday party in a Trowbridge country park this evening.

The majority of the youths, many intoxicated, quickly dispersed on noticing the police – leaving litter strewn across the field and significant damage to gates and fencing.

Officers say the criminal damage at Southwick Country Park, which is looked after by volunteers, was “deliberate”, adding that the fencing was “damaged beyond repair” by the group.

“A large number of youths gathered to celebrate a 15th birthday party, and whilst someone was thoughtful enough to bring a bin bag, not everyone saw fit to use it”, police spokesperson commented.

“Worse still, a gate and numerous fence posts were found to be deliberately damaged beyond repair.

“Officers attended and dispersed the youths, some of whom had clearly been drinking and had no consideration for the current pandemic.

“By all means use and enjoy the Country Park, but please respect the hard work of the many volunteers who try their best to keep it nice for everyone.”
